Tips on Membership

"Good habits are as easy to form as bad ones."  T. McCarver

Read the Newsletter!

Note which trips are of interest to you, and note if a prepayment is required.  You may have to pick and choose because more than one event is planned on a day.  Some payments may be non-refundable.  Ask ahead if you are not sure!

Play by the rules.  There may be age, grade or other restrictions for certain events which are not up to the organizing member or the Board.  Please abide by these rules.  If a polite inquiry reveals that these are firm limitations, then opt for another activity.  You always have the chance to organize something that more closely suits your needs.

Call or email to RSVP.  Make sure you are using  the correct number or email address  for that event.

Leave all the information asked for in the newsletter. RSVP's are easy online! Most events have an email link you can RSVP by clicking the email address- we can't make it much easier!

Write it down!  If you have committed to an event, be sure to note it on your daily calendar.  Homeschoolers are a busy bunch, and we all know how easy it is to forget. The last page of the printed newsletter can be removed and hung up on the refrigerator! If you just use the online news you can print the calendar right off the website.

Call to cancel.  If you are unable to attend after RSVP'ing, please have the courtesy to call and cancel your reservation.  There is often a waiting list of eager children who would love the chance to attend in your place.

Know where you're going.
If you need directions, call the organizer well ahead of time. Often she/he can also recommend places to park and eat if necessary.

Be on time.  Sometimes it is necessary to enter as a group. It can be hard to control a group of excited children in a public place when one member is late.  Some events may have time restrictions for seating, and you will be left to be seated until an appropriate moment if you are late.

HAVE FUN!

Say "Thank You"  It never hurts to express your thanks to the organizer.  A kind word repays many hours devoted to planning and organizing.  Also, don't forget to thank the staff at the museums, the symphony, the ballet, or whatever venue you are attending.

Activity Types

Below is an explanation of THEA activity types, it is important to understand the differences between the two types of THEA activities.

The distinction between the two types allows THEA to have a wide variety of activities and still maintain its commitment to remain a non-partisan, non-sectarian group.

Board Sponsored Activities

These are field trips, programs, speakers, or any other activities which are planned and organized by the THEA Board and committees.  These activities must fall within the THEA By-Laws and be non-sectarian and non-partisan.  These are listed under "THEA Board Sponsored Events" in your newsletter.

Member Planned Activities

Our members are from many different walks of life and choose to homeschool in manydifferent ways.

Members are encouraged to plan, organize and advertise any activities which address these needs and which may fall outside our Bylaws. For example, a member may want to organize a Hanukkah celebration, a Halloween party,
or a Christmas party. This is perfectly acceptable.

These activities are subject to the organizer's guidelines and are listed under"Member Planned Events" in the newsletter. Coordinators should contact our VP Field Trips when planning an event so your event can be added to our calendar. This is not an approval process; it is merely to avoid possible conflicts and to improve attendance.

NOTE:  The  Board is NOT responsible for any events under this heading. These activities are solely the responsibility of the organizing member.
