Tarrant Home Education Association (THEA) was founded in 1992 and obtained non-profit status in 1993. It is an inclusive, non-partisan and non-sectarian support group for Tarrant County, TX and the surrounding area (Fort Worth, Arlington, Grapevine, Hurst, Euless, Bedford, Keller, North Richland Hills, Saginaw, Aledo, Azle, Lake Worth, Weatherford, Godley, Alvarado, Burleson, Mansfield, etc ) for families who educate their children at home. Our members are from many different walks of life and choose to home educate in many different ways making us a richly diverse group.
THEA members organize activities and events that encourage social interaction as well as educational opportunities for its members and their children. Members utilize these times to network with each other. We trade resources, compare curricula, exchange ideas, ask and answer questions, brag about our kids, complain about our kids, compliment each other, commiserate with each other, and support each other's efforts.
THEA encourages each member to volunteer their time to the group by serving on committees and organizing special interest field trips and activities. Members can establish opportunities for the kids like 4-H, Scouts, Book Clubs and other enrichment opportunities. By working on projects such as these, home educators have an even greater opportunity to increase their network. There is always ample opportunity for the home educators (usually moms) to get together and just have a bit of fun! We have monthly Mom's Night Out that all members new and established are welcome to! Part of our Members Only website currently includes an elist that works in conjunction with our forums. This facilitates swapping curiculum or ideas, information on activities, or friendly banter.
The kids have a great time! Park days, craft days, science groups, bowling are regular activities and favorites of our children. We have a group for the Teens, Junior high, Tweens, Little Learners, and Really Little Learners. While there are activities for all ages to attend, not everything is appropriate for all to be there at the same time. Field trips provide a wonderful way for the kids to get to know each other.
Once you join, jump right in and get going to park days or field trips. Definitely don't miss the monthly Mom's Night Out. You will find plenty of smiles greeting you! Don't wait to start forming friendships with other home educators, While new home educators work to establish a network, seasoned home educators, whose support needs change over time, work together to enrich the group.
THEA can be a part of your daily life or it can give you some events to mark on your calendar to share with other homeschooling families. These things listed are just a few things you can expect when you join us. THEA respects individual choices regarding personal philosophies and homeschooling styles. If you are looking for a support group in the Greater Fort Worth area, we hope we can be of assistance in supporting and enriching your home's school!
